Maurice "Mo" Lavoie

Maurice H Lavoie is a thirty-eight-year veteran of the nation’s aerospace and human spaceflight initiatives. He received his Executive Master in Business Administration, with Beta Gamma Sigma honors, and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Central Florida.

He joined NASA-KSC, March 1976, in the Data Analysis facility conducting image analysis and digital enhancement of industrial, medical and military imagery. In January 1979, he graduated to the Space Shuttle payload operations organization as the Data Processing Assembly systems engineer responsible for the Spacelab French computer systems and experiment integration, test and payload project engineering management.

In spring of 1985, Mr. Lavoie left NASA to develop Space Station Data Management System at IBM Federal Systems Division Houston, Texas. IBM provided experience in the contractor side of program plans, contract proposals, competitive bids, and other component trade studies for Complex Aerospace Systems. His primary assignment was to assist IBM develop and deliver a Spacelab French computer replacement called the AP101SL.

Mr. Lavoie resumed his NASA KSC Shuttle payloads career, January 1989, and was promoted to Payload Process & Integration Engineer to manage the Spacelab and other payload technical integration efforts. These functions included formulating and integrating agency requirements, directing vehicle and systems assembly, conducting test, and orchestrating the launch activities of several International payloads. At the end of the Spacelab program he was appointed the directorate International Space Station (ISS) Data Management Systems representative and received a supervisory engineer position.

Maurice has since supervised large teams and managed business, contracts, workforce and budgets up to $250 million in value. His favorite positions were those that combined his systems engineering, executive, personnel, project and contracts management experiences to exceed business and International customer expectations.

NASA has presented Maurice with an Exceptional Service Medal, a Manned Flight Awareness Silver Snoopy, and twenty-seven consecutive distinguished performance awards.

Mr. Lavoie was born in Nashua, New Hampshire, and is married to Linda Gale Hendrix Lavoie. He enjoys learning languages and using his English and French language skills while travelling around the world.
